The current study compared the 12-month effects of two approaches to follow-up with youth who had participated in a short-term out-of-school residential program to increase diversity acceptance, community involvement and identity development. One approach was structured and guided by the Transtheoretical model of change, the other was unstructured follow up. Results document an overall decline in the program’s target variables at 12-month follow-up with no significant differences between follow-up approaches. These findings are discussed in the context of the study’s limitations and directions for future research and practice are provided. McNair Scholar project.
