This study examines whether distinct facets of bicultural development might differ in their relation to pro-social outcomes in Latina/o youth. Specifically, we explored whether bicultural identities and bicultural involvement might not be differentially related to leadership and social responsibility. By focusing on positive youth development variables, this study diverges from an unfortunate tendency among researchers to focus on only adverse aspects of development when studying Latina/o youth. The research is based on data provided by one-hundred-twenty-four Latina/o youth from Hillsborough County (FL) who completed a research battery including demographic questions, measures of American and ethnic identity, the Bicultural Involvement Questionnaire, the Youth Social Responsibility Scale, and a leadership behaviors scale.
